Boomtrain is growing! Chander Sarna recently joined the Boomie ranks, bringing over 25 years of experience with building and managing high-performance engineering teams. He has a track record of active leadership in the development of consumer, enterprise and cloud platforms. Chander joins us most recently from Simply Hired (Acquired by Indeed) where he managed a distributed team of 45 engineers, consisting of Development, DevOps, Data Science and QA teams.
We sat down with Chander to get to know him better both professionally and personally, and hear more on his vision for Boomtrain.
Welcome Chander! What do you think of Boomtrain so far? Any interesting first impressions?
Boomtrain has a lot of potential and I am excited to be a part of it. The business is strong with a tremendous amount of momentum and a large customer base.
The company is unique in the data science space, they have built a very clear and actionable application of machine learning – sending the right messages at the right time to the right people.
On a lighter note, Boomtrain has a unique and special culture that I really enjoy. It’s a great work atmosphere — the office is open with a lot of collaborative energy, and it’s dog friendly!
As our SVP of Engineering, which teams do you oversee and what are some immediate priorities for you and your teams?
I oversee all of development – from core engineering and the roadmap to data science and machine learning to development infrastructure. I am also responsible for production operations. Meeting customer SLAs and response times are two key objectives that I’m measured on every day.
“My top priority is supporting the business as it scales.”
It is crucial for engineering to support the rapid growth of the company. As a result, I will also be spending a lot of time hiring and adding to the talented team we have in place.
What are some of the strengths you’ve seen so far in your teams?
This is a talented and passionate team that cares deeply about the success and mission of the company. They are dedicated to tackling the challenges we face as a fast-paced, growing SaaS company, and aren’t deterred by hard work. Dedication and agility has helped the team be very successful even though they are a small team. I can’t wait to see the success we can achieve over the coming months as we grow!
Tell us a little bit about yourself personally. What do you like to do on weekends?
On the weekends I spend time with my family. My two daughters both work in the Bay Area – one at Facebook and the other started her own company (she was featured in Forbes 30 under 30). We are lucky to be so close to each other, and make it a priority to see each other as much as possible. I am a certified scuba diver, which I love to do when traveling. And I play tennis every weekend.
Although I have lived in Silicon Valley for over 25 years, I grew up in 5 different countries and learned to speak 4 languages. If you ask me where I am from, I say “All over!”
Welcome Chander! We’re happy to have you on the team.
